Lhasa, is situated at an altitude of 11830 ft. on the north bank of Kyichu river. Two high craggy hills stands up in isolation from the valley floor. The red Hill is crowned by the Potala Palace and the other Chokpori or Iron Hill is topped by a tall antenna. Jokhang Temple, the holiest shrine in Tibet is the oldest dating back to the 7th century. It houses the oldest and most precious Jow statue, which Princess Wenceng, also known as "White Tara" brought from China some 1300 yrs ago on the occasion of her weeding to the Tibetan King Tsongtsen Gampo.
